Meet HPC and TAZ Intern: Calvin Hawke

Inline image 1

My name is Calvin Hawke, a senior studying Business Administration and Mathematics at Barton College in Wilson, NC. I am from Wendell, NC and attended William G. Enloe High School in Raleigh.

I began playing baseball at a young age, and am thrilled to still be playing. After high school, I was able to earn a spot on Barton’s baseball team. In 2015 and 2016 I was named Academic All-Conference, and in 2016 I was a second team All-Conference selection along with the Conference Carolinas Scholar Athlete of the Year.
I hope to use my internship with Vardy HPC to increase my knowledge about small business operations and to learn to coach and train athletes. Following my graduation from Barton College, I plan on attending North Carolina State University’s School of Engineering.

Meet HPC and TAZ Intern, Nella Chamblee

Nella Chamblee

My name is Nella Chamblee and I am a senior at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. I live in Wendell, NC and attended Corinth Holders High School, where I played volleyball and softball.

I started playing travel softball at the age of 8 and continue to play in college. During that time, I assisted Kim Vardy of KVP Pitching by catching pitchers, giving catching and hitting lessons, and teaching the basic fundamentals of softball at weekly clinics. At Corinth Holders High School, I excelled in both volleyball and softball, earning awards such as MVP, All-Conference, All-District and All-State softball, and female athlete of the year.

Currently, I play softball at UNCW and am pursuing a degree in Mathematics and a minor in Recreation: Sports Leadership and Tourism Management, which is what lead me to an internship at The Athletic Zone. With this internship, I hope to learn more about the skills needed to coach elite athletes and help them perform at the highest level.
